When receiving your compostela at the Camino’s end, you’re asked why you made the 770km pilgrimage. They ask only for their records and statistics of course (you can choose between “religious,” “personal,” or “health” reasons), but it is still something we all ask ourselves as we make the monthlong trek. Why are we walking?
I asked that very question of some of the pilgrims I met along the way. And while there’s no real way to sum up something to personal in just a few lines, a soundbite is still better than a checkbox, I suppose.
